COACHING PHILOSOPHY
MY APPROACH TO COACHING.
Together we will set goals, plan your season, and design a custom, data-driven training plan built around your goals, history, availability, and limitations. My support will help you stay consistent, build confidence, and reach real performance gains. I take a holistic approach to coaching, knowing that there's more to success than just on-the-bike training. I will help you learn about nutrition, strength and mobility training, sports psychology, and the logistical aspects of your event preparation. And we'll do this while fitting it all into your busy schedule, commitments as a parent, and flourishing career.
I utilize Training Peaks to deliver workouts and analytics based on power, heart rate, and perceived exertion. I meet with my clients over video every other week to discuss progress, planning, successes, and obstacles. I'm there with you every step of the way as you build fitness and take on your next bike tour, gravel race, duathlon, or criterium. And I do this as an athlete and coach who's been there and done that. I've stood on podiums. One of my most prized possessions is a lantern rouge. I've toured around the US and the world. I've ridden centuries and doubles and raced ultra-endurance. And I've enjoyed the sport of cycling for almost 30 years. I bring all of that to the table as a coach.
THE FULL STORY
ABOUT ME AS A COACH.
I've been active in the northern California cycling community for close to three decades. In addition to founding Velo Girls and Savvy Bike, I've been an active leader with USA Cycling (USAC), the Northern California Nevada Cycling Association (NCNCA), the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC), and the Norcal High School Cycling League (NICA). I've coached camps and clinics throughout California and in Mallorca, been a guest coach for AthletiCamps and the Specialized Women's Sports Camp, and I was the women's outreach coordinator and camp director for Sea Otter Classic.
As an athlete, I've ridden and raced road, mountain, track, cyclocross, gravel, Paralympic track tandem, and duathlon. I've also competed in road and trail running events, winning my age group at distances including 5K, 10K, and half marathon. I've raced some of the biggest gravel bike races in the United States, including Rebecca's Private Idaho, Sea Otter Classic, Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder, Cascade Gravel Grinder, Old Growth Classic, Croatan Buck Fifty, Dirty Kitten, The Last Best Ride, Lost and Found, Truckee Tahoe, the Grasshopper Adventure Series, and USA Cycling Gravel National Championships. I've participated in countless endurance and ultra-endurance events, including guided and self-supported touring and bike-packing throughout the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Italy, and France, AIDS/Lifecycle, Furnace Creek 508, HooDoo 500, and Silver State 508. Additionally, I've raced USA Cycling-sanctioned road, criterium, and time trial, cyclocross and cross-country mountain bike, including USA Cycling Cyclocross and Mountain Bike National Championships.
For a change of pace and to challenge myself with something new, I've learned to row, play pickleball, and hiked the Grand Canyon (Rim-to-River-to Rim) in one day in 2025. I'm a firm believer in the value of strength training, and I train year-round to build physical and mental strength and to improve my performance on the bike.

IN THEIR WORDS
ATHLETES ON COACH LORRI
I feel so fortunate to have Lorri as a coach. She helps my cycling is so many ways. - Sam N.
Love working with Lorri. Both of us have good flexibility and understand each other well. - Nathan T.
Lorri has been so incredibly sensitive to my self inflicted roller coaster of a training schedule this year. I suffered another major crash; and head injury, which put my training with the winter coaching on hold. She carefully got me thru recovery and continued to support and encourage my slow progress. I have been struggling to find my "why" and goals for training /racing my bikes this year. I turn 65 and based on my "crash" record, everyone seems to think I should slow it down. As mature cyclist, this is a topic I love discussing with Lorri and how our goals can change, but still remain challenging and adventurous. Our shared love of the sport and respect for each other has really turned a coach/student relationship into a lasting friendship. I have learned so much about my fitness journey and it is ok to take breaks and prioritize other aspects of my life (family, friends, other sports, dogs). - Kathy P.
Lorri is an amazing coach! I’ve been road cycling for 25 years, but I just started structured training and racing last year at the age of 52. I started working with Lorri almost a year ago, and it has been a complete game changer for me. She has taught me so much about training and competing, and I have really seen the growth and development over the last year. Most importantly, she has helped me with the mental side of competing - my anxiety, my lack of belief in myself, etc. I truly never thought I would be at this level at this stage of my life, and couldn’t have gotten here without her. Plus, she’s a really fun, badass person! I can't wait to see where we go next. - Kathy J.
Lorri is an awesome coach! I appreciate her cyclopedic knowledge and her willingness to teach. She sends outside resources to support my goals. She is especially understanding and knowledgeable of training setbacks, health related issues that come with the older cyclist! I'm very grateful to work with someone of Lorri's calibre! - Gayl L.
Lorri has been a great coach. I am seeing huge improvements since moving to private coaching. - Colton F.
Lorri has been excellent. She has been very collaborative, hands on, and understanding. I enjoy working with her. - Dwight G.
