I coach because helping other people reach their goals not only gives me great joy, but also grows me as a person. I love riding my bike, and I love to see others experience that same love and happiness.
My coaching philosophy is one of health and lifelong learning. I value education and expertise, as well as experience. Each person is unique and individual, and as such my coaching approach is to get to know the athlete as a person; working together, we discover the best ways to develop and grow in the areas that we identify.
I value technology that adds to athletic growth and experience, and I strive to stay on top of the latest research on athletic training.
Coaching is a team activity where both the coach and the athlete have responsibility to communicate and interact with one another. Lastly, but not least, it is about enjoying the process and journey we take together as coach and athlete, no matter how difficult it may be.
Off the bike, I have performed with Richard Carpenter both as a backup singer and as a clarinetist, and I am a full-time musician (clarinetist) with the Royal Hawaiian Band.

Athlete Testimonials
Great coach. I am a momthalete (mom who used to be an athlete years ago) coming back from 9 years off the bike (or any steady workout due to chronic illness). Kate is a steady presence and makes changes to my plan based on health issues (flare ups). She is compassionate and encouraging as well as keeping me accountable. - Lory S.
I really enjoy working with Kate. I have had two prior one-on-one coaching relationships with other training organizations and this is by far the best, heads above what I have done previously. I am always impressed with Kate's depth of knowledge and experience; she is the perfect coach for me. I tell others about her, and have encouraged them to sign up! - Bill H.
Kate is knowledgeable, responsive, and funny! - Mary C.
I'm very happy with coach Kate - she is always quick to respond and she makes me feel like i'm the only athlete she is coaching - our Zoom meetings never feel rushed and she adapts the training to my needs. Even if I don't have a race goal, she helps keep me enthused and healthy. - Lynda T.
This year Coach Kate helped me improve my resilience & confidence to handle longer races from the 30mi range to the 50+mi range. She also presented a year end review that helped me see where I started to where I am today. I appreciate her ability and expertise to make changes to my training schedule when life threw some wrenches into it this year. She didn't miss a beat and kept me on track. Thanks, Coach Kate, and to everyone at BaseCamp Coaching! - Kim T.
I'm so happy to have found Kate! She's been able to give me attainable cycling goals through some pretty intense life changes. Her knowledge and solid coaching advice has saved me! - Frankie H.
Kate has done a great job of reading me as an athlete and supporting my growth and addressing any limiters. Coach Kate has really helped me transition away from BC online this year and is whipping me into exceptional shape with the plan progression based on my goals. It is a great experience. Thank you. - Beth C.
