COACHING PHILOSOPHY
MY APPROACH TO COACHING.
My coaching philosophy is not just about generating workouts and training plans. I want to establish a relationship with you while helping you navigate life's curveballs. I'm an experienced WKO5 user, utilizing power meter data to incorporate your life events, feelings, job changes, and birthdays into a manageable approach that helps you succeed.
THE FULL STORY
ABOUT ME AS A COACH.
Cycling has always been a part of my life. Early on it was a way to explore and a way to test my limits as long as I was home before dark. It provided a sense of wonder, freedom, joy, and sometimes competition between friends. Saving my paper route money to buy a French-made ten-speed still puts a smile on my face. I joined the U.S. Navy, serving on a submarine, and my passion for cycling was rekindled after leaving the service. I moved to York, Pennsylvania, working for an electric utility, then restarted training slowly while balancing it with my career as my wife and I raised our two daughters. During that time I jumped into age group racing, even winning a few races in the different categories. Over the years I've supported various charity rides, including The Multiple Sclerosis Society since I had a personal connection to the disease. I retired in 2017, which gives me the opportunity to partner more fully with athletes.

IN THEIR WORDS
ATHLETES ON COACH JIM
Jim is great. Not just a coach but someone I can share life moments with. I look forward each morning after workouts for his comments and humor. I feel he gets me and my goals. I feel he cares about me. If only I lived in PA….. - Dennis W.
Base Camp is not my first experience with a coach. Jim gives the feeling that he “gets it” when it comes to understanding my needs, desires and limitations as an athlete. After years of witnessing my fitness decline, despite incredibly hard and frustrating work simply trying to keep up with a local club and its coaching program, over the past year that trend has made an about face. My fitness is probably already starting to approach where it was years ago when I achieved my loftiest goals and it appears to be continuing to rise. I am excited about my continued progression and about just being able to get out and enjoy riding more than ever. - Mike F.
