I grew up outside Cleveland, Ohio, playing sports like soccer, football, swimming, wrestling, and track. Diving was my primary sport in college (Miami University Ohio Division 1) while I studied exercise physiology, nutrition, and coaching. In 1995, I moved to New York City and maintained a full-time private personal training practice through 2020.
I started competing in cross-country mountain bike races in 1999 and moved through the categories, racing as a pro from 2009 until 2012. In 2008 I started doing local road races in Central Park and moved up to Cat 3 and Masters for 2011 and beyond. I've lived in Vermont since 2020, and I continue racing in gravel, mountain, and road events, but my favorite is still XC mountain bike.
I started coaching a few cycling clients in 2005, and since then I've coached athletes one on one, worked with both small and large teams, and written 8-week training plan challenges for over 4,000 athletes. I worked with the CRCA Sids Bike NYC Race Team from 2008 through 2012, coaching and providing race plans for the road and mountain bike teams. I served as team coach for the Trek NYC Race Team from 2015 and 2019, and I coached full time with Team Wilpers Coaching from 2019 to 2024. I really enjoy bringing non-racers into events and creating goal events/challenges, but I also love coaching casual riders who simply want to stay healthy and fit.
In addition to coaching, I enjoy cycling camps and have been leading a three-day twice-yearly "More Cows than Cars" gravel camp in Vermont since 2022. In 2024 I hosted a four-day winter training camp in Arizona for sixteen of my coached athletes.

Athlete Testimonials
I have worked with Greg for a while now and so I could be biased, but he is always there for me and ready to either make changes or answer questions when unexpected things come up. Like injuries, sicknesses, and work. - Amanda A.
Greg is amazing and will be with him for life! - Bob C.
Greg is awesome. He also introduced me to Namrita and my session with her was excellent and her suggestions have improved my energy throughout the ride. I also like the BaseCamp training rides, seem more realistic. - Miki E.
Coach Greg is amazing. He understands the older athlete along with my limitations and needs. Knows when I need to pull back and also has more faith in me than I have in myself. He pushes me to be the best version of myself and helps me to get through the hard stuff. As we age, we face challenges that younger athletes don't, and Greg knows how I can overcome those obstacles. He is simply the best. - Linda S.
