COACHING PHILOSOPHY
MY APPROACH TO COACHING.
My coaching philosophy is built around communication, collaboration, and creating an environment where athletes can learn and grow. Training should fit the athlete’s life, goals, and environment, not the other way around. I believe training can be both fun and data-driven, using the numbers as a tool rather than letting them dictate every minute of every workout.
THE FULL STORY
ABOUT ME AS A COACH.
I’ve been racing bikes since I was 13 and now bring decades of experience in mountain biking, road, cyclocross, and gravel to a casual, approachable coaching philosophy focused on helping athletes reach their goals and learn the process. As an athlete, I competed professionally in cross-country mountain biking, but I enjoy competing in all cycling disciplines. I also enjoy working with a wide variety of athletes, regardless of their background, experience, or goals, and I've coached multiple masters and elite athletes to national championships and podium finishes in road, cyclocross, and mountain bike events, as well as age-group athletes to podium finishes at national-caliber events such as Unbound. I'm a Level 1 USA Cycling-certified coach and a PMBIA-certified skills instructor.
THE RÉSUMÉ
MY PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENTS.
As an athlete, I’ve been fortunate to finish in the top 10 at Masters Road Nationals, top 15 at the USA Cycling XC National Championships in the professional category, and top 10 at the BC Bike Race in the professional category. I've also finished at the back of plenty of races, and I think that’s just as valuable. Racing is a process, and every race, regardless of the result, is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and become a better athlete and person.
IN THEIR WORDS
ATHLETES ON COACH BRIG
Brig is a fantastic coach and I truly enjoy being coach by him!!! - Shawn P.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Brig to train for the Leadville 100. And a real eye opener insofar as working with a coach at all, something I had never done and something that really elevated my training beyond doing what I had always done to train for a race - which was just to ride a lot without any structure or planning. Big thank you for the support! - Kelley H.
Brig is amazing. I very much appreciate how he has helped me with training and getting ready for events to race. - Michelle N.
Brig is a fantastic coach. Not only is he very knowledgable, but he's generous and patient. I have greatly enjoyed working with him and have seen quite notable gains in my performance. - Denise M.
Brig has proved to be an invaluable person in my life, above and beyond the coaching piece. The past few years have presented more than a few serious health challenges, and he has been there for me every step of the way....I'm optimistic about today and my future; Brig has been and is an integral part of that outlook. - Kathleen K.
Brig has been great. Knows his stuff and very responsive. - Bruce T.
